Simple applications that convey the most important information at the same time are often a big challenge in design. We faced such a task when building a mobile application for MyFactBook.
MyFactBook is one of those projects that are launched for the first time and that do not have any competition at the moment. Once again we had the opportunity to create something from scratch. On the one hand, such projects offer a lot of opportunities, but on the other hand, the lack of data and comparative options, while limiting the budget for research, means that we can rely only on consultations with the client and our own experience. And this is always a big challenge.
This time the task was to create a visual identity, a website design and a mobile application. These activities were to be complemented by the visualization of the profile on Facebook.
MyFactBook is a simple mechanism that allows you to count the actual number of participants of any event, ranging from cultural events, sports events to mass events, protests, marches, etc. All you have to do is report the event and everyone who is present at that time can confirm their attendance.
Our goal was to design such an application that will allow you to indicate and count the participation of users in selected events in a simple and easy way. The app was to be complemented by a lifestyle website, where you can find information about upcoming or past events.
We specified the target group in consultation with the client. As with other, new projects, too, in this case it was initially selected based on so-called corridor studies, i.e. interviews with people in the workplace, residence, acquaintances, etc.
Among the recipients of the mobile application and the Internet service were young people, in the age range 20-40 years. Due to the different type of events and the wide scale of the project — interests, education or gender were of secondary importance.
As a standard for this type of project, we start activities with the development of a visual identity. We opted for modern colors and logos, based on simple and clear typography. The proportions here were based on the golden ratio (golden ratio). We chose garnet as the primary colors, the color of certainty and truth, and red as a call to action. It was complemented by blue and green.
Then we proceeded to the design of the mobile application. It was supposed to be very simple and intuitive. The MyFactBook app, based on GPS data, retrieves and displays information about local events. You can confirm your attendance at the event. The application was ultimately integrated into the website, where information about the number of people participating in the event was shared.
In the next step, we designed a web portal, which was a complement to the mobile application. The web service, like the mobile application, was supposed to be simple and transparent. It is divided into three main thematic blocks: Events, Facts and Personalities. On the site, users who participated in the event were given the opportunity to straighten information, often distorted by the media.
The mobile application and the website were complemented by activities in social media and activities related to the positioning of the site in search engines. We took care of the social media accounts and carried out active advertising campaigns, introducing the product to the market.
The result of our work is a user-friendly and easy-to-use mobile application and lifestyle web portal, which complements the application. The whole thing has gained a consistent image in all communication channels, thanks to which the product itself has a chance to become recognizable and, we hope, popular.
